HTDC Conference – High Tech Diecasting
On April 21-22, 2004, at the GARDA HOTEL, in Montichiari, took place the second international Conference HTDC-High Tech Diecasting, Processing of Light and Heavy alloys, organised and promoted by METEF 2004 (the International exhibition on Aluminium and foundry technologies and equipment) and the Italian Association of Metallurgy (AIM).
The aim of the Conference HTDC 2004 was to offer an overview on scientific and technological innovations in the field of Diecasting, with papers and contributions from a very qualified panel of experts, both academic and industrial, to give
an unique opportunity of understanding and exploiting the potential of diecasting.
Therefore a qualified panel of experts, both industrial and academic, coming from 13 Countries presented over 60 technical papers (oral and poster) organised in 11 sessions (from the alloys to the die, from the process to the applications), reviewing and upgrading the latest significant improvements in diecasting technology. The importance of the event is underlined also by the stature of the sponsors, some of the most significant companies of the compartment:
- Aluminium Rheinfelden GmbH
- Bohler-Uddeholm Italia Srl
- Engin Soft Trading Srl
- Industrial Frigo Srl
- Kluber Lubrication Italia Sas
- Magma Soft GmbH
- Meccanica PI.ERRE Srl
- Petrofer Chemie GmbH+CO KG
- Tiesse Robot Spa

Alluminio Design Italia
design and architecture in aluminium in the 20th Century in Italy
The “Aluminium Design Italia” museum-exhibition aimed to trace back the use of aluminium in terms of design and architecture in the 20th Century in Italy.
About 60 designer pieces, organised into ten stations and illustrated by an articulated iconographic instrument – proposed in video format, examined the varied range of products in aluminium which were designed and produced in Italy, proceeding by decades.
The "Alluminio Design Italia” exhibition-museum was proposed as a preview of a much more important international event which will be held in 2006 with the patronage and organisation of "Bresciamostre - grandi eventi", the body linked to the Municipality and Province of Brescia.
Alluminio Design Italia benefited of the sponsorship of the following companies:
Alcoa
Alluminio Sammarinese
Cial
Giesse
Matter
Suncover

ICE Conference
Innovation in the world of foundry
On the 22 April, ICE (the Institute for Foreign Trade) organised a seminar dedicated to the foundry of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The speakers, very important Italian companies leaders in the specific sector, addressed to the numerous foreign delegations coming from around the world present at Metef.

Aital Conference - Surface Treatments News
Surface Treatments – News is the annual conference that the Association AITAL dedicates to surface treatments and that Metef, when taking place, hosts.
The subjects chosen concern both the painting and anodic oxidising of aluminium.
Concerning painting, the papers presented were of great interest especially for coaters looking for new technologies and increasingly more environmentally-friendly processes and for production and control techniques able to supply sufficient quality guarantees in “special effect” finishes (wood, marble and others), increasingly more highly appreciated by users.
Considering the anodic oxidising session, two were papers: the continuous anodising technique and the analysis of the results of an interesting project conducted by the QUALITAL laboratory for the control of abrasion resistance of anodised surfaces using a method which guarantees the total repeatability of the testing conditions.

AIM Conference
The surface of titanium and the environment: a fascinating and lasting combination
The workshop organised by AIM, The Italian Metallurgical Association, was held on 23rd April and was dedicated to the specific characteristic of the surface of titanium or its alloys in relation to the surrounding environment.
The aim of the workshop was to highlight the peculiar properties of this material that make it suitable for many and varied applications, both traditional (chemicals, petrochemicals or aeronautical engineering) and completely new (design, architecture, domestic electrical appliances, marine applications, various fancy goods, etc.).

ITA Conference
“Fundamentals of Titanium”
“Fundamentals of Titanium” is the title of the workshop organized by TIMATEC with the partnership of ITA - International Titanium Association held on 22nd April 2004 at the Garda Exhibition Centre.
Mr. Stanley Seagle, a very qualified ITA professional that has been working in this field for 40 years illustrated the characteristics of this emerging metal through 4 different Sessions:
- Introduction to Titanium
- Metallurgy and Corrosion of Titanium
- Fabrication of Titanium
- New Developments and Applications
